Efficiency

Computing is a major contributor to global warming, modern programming techniques do not encourage efficient solutions to algorythm solving - At Bigmite we pride ourselves in developing code that is efficient both in speed and CPU utilisation.

By improving software efficiency, memory utilisation, disk storage and system resources the server requirements are lowered, this in turn reduces the numebr of servers required. Internet servers consume energy 24 hours a day 365 days a year, and require air conditioning to cool the machine rooms.

By using Bigmite as a hosting company we can reduce your carbon footprint considerably.

Hardware choice...

Bigmite use low power desktop machines and utilise their peripherals to reduce the office power consumption. Examples of this are:

• The NVidia Ion based linux server consuming less than 20 Watts in total.
• Single server configuration acting as fileserver, printserver, test machine, network router, WiFi access and firewall.
• Use of flourescent lighting in offices

We constantly monitor out energy usage and aim to further reduce our energy consumption.
