Email Software Used

Postfix

This is our primary mail delivery agent. A project originally started by IBM, Postfix has become one of the worlds leading MTA (Mail Tranport Agent). This product was chosen as a suitable replacement for sendmail as the configuration is better suited for our mass hosting requirements. We still consider this the best MTA for our needs, a comparison of leading MTA's is available here

SpamAssassin

Since the creation of SMTP - Simple Mail Transfer Protocol - in August 1982 the use of email has come to dominate communication between clients. Unfortunately the ability to be able to deliver mail quickly caused the explosion of SPAM email. Changes to the SMTP protocol to eliminate or reduce SPAM are non-trivial and would require a global update of email clients and MTA's. Consequently complex solutions are required to filter email to remove/mark SPAM messages. We offer Spam Assasin as a solution which is currently a market leader, if you require other spam filters we would be happy to offer an alternative.
